The Paper Mate Contour ballpoint pen was first released in December 1966, alongside the Profile and Gold Plated Deluxe models, marking a new generation of Paper Mate pen designs. Although Paper Mate has not publicly announced a discontinuation date, the Contour ballpoint pen was produced throughout the 1980s and is now out of production.
